IDESIGN was established by Kristin Hayward with a passion for design, a love for managing the transformation of space, & a desire to see the joy on clients faces when they see their finished product. IDESIGN aims to make the renovation process as simple as possible for clients by providing all services required from concept to completion.

Why did you decide to get into this field?

My story on how I got here is a bit unique to most. I graduated with a Commerce Honours Degree with a major in Marketing, from the University of Manitoba. I have always been a creative person & thought that a career in Marketing would provide me with the creative release that I needed. However, my job really boiled down to a lot of statistics....not quite the creative release I was looking for.

Once somewhat established in our careers my husband and I decided to build a new house. It was at this point where my love of design begun to manifest itself into something in which I really cannot control. As I started to flip through home plans, & examine all of the established options for building our home I could not find a one stop shop that fit all my wants & needs. I then decided to design & build the house myself from the ground up; starting with the design of the floor plan, product selection, all the way through general contracting. The finished product was really a dream come true.

Once the house was complete, I was craving more. I started to assist family & friends with their décor & home renovation projects, & eventually built yet another house from the ground-up. I finally decided I needed to make a change, so I went back to school, received a Diploma in Interior Design, opened IDESIGN – Interiors by Kristin, & began pursuing my dreams.

What do you like most about your job?

This is a very personal job. People welcome me into their home or business & trust me with one of their most valuable possessions. The reactions of my clients when they see their finished space is really the biggest payoff for me. There are not many careers in which you are able to build such a personal relationship with your clients & are able to improve their quality of life & transform the way they enjoy their space.

What is your design style?

I tend to gravitate to modern & contemporary design. However, I love to balance these schemes with classic & traditional elements to create a timeless space. I also love to use organic natural materials, such as live edge slabs & reclaimed or salvaged woods.

What inspires you?

My clients often are a big source of inspiration. I love to get into their heads & create a space in which they are hoping for, but just need a little help to get there.

What does “good design” mean to you?

"Good design" to me, is so much more than simply looking great; it needs to function properly & this I think is the key. The other key feature, especially for residential clients, is a space that speaks to them & feels like home. I like to incorporate where I can personal items, whether it is an heirloom piece of furniture, family pictures, or photos of travel. I like to use some pieces that are unique to my clients to make their space feel like theirs.
